  • Calypso, the Great Sea Nymph, daughter of the Titan Gods, Atlas and Thymus, was trapped by Zeus, God of all Gods, on the lonely island of Ogygia after the Titan War between the Titans and the Gods because she sided with the Titans during this war.
  • Calypso had fallen in love with the brave and fearless warrior, Odysseus. After Odysseus and his men had won the Trojan War, they had gone through many adventures and all of his men that were left from those adventures had been killed by the sun god, Helios, because they had eaten his cattle, disregarding Odysseus' warning. So, Odysseus had alone washed up on Calypso's island.

  • Calypso wanted to make Odysseus her immortal husband, so that she could love him forever and she would never be alone again. Odysseus refused this tempting offer of eternal youth and immortality.
  • After Calypso had healed Odysseus (and made love to him many times) the god of battle strategy, Athena, asked Zeus to free Odysseus from Calypso's "imprisonment." Athena asked this of Zeus because Odysseus had to get home to his wife, Penelope, and his kingdom.
  • After Zeus ordered Calypso to send Odysseus home, she built him a boat and stocked it with enough food, water, and wine to make it back home. Calypso also gave him good winds to travel back home to Ithaca with.
